Hi Everyone!

Well, as you know I haven't blogged in ages....for many reasons. I not only blog at work ( so I suffer from blog burn out ) but there has been so much going on in my life that it's actually hard to put into words.
As some of you already know, Dean and I have separated unfortunately it was very dramatic and messy for awhile. Sense and calm has finally prevailed and we are now dealing with it all very well.
I have moved into a lovely apartment that I get to decorate and make my own little sanctuary. I can walk to work! I'm keeping my job here in Springfield, MO. I really enjoy it and feel like giving it some more time to see where it leads me. I know alot of you wont understand this because you think I should come "home" to LA or Sydney to be around friends and family, but I feel this is right for me at this time.
I need stability: financially, emotionally, physically etc. and a big move does not give me that.
I'm focussing on healing and getting fit and healthy too. I have a great support system here- my workmates and friends have been amazingly supportive through it all and gone above and beyond for me.
some days are good and others are hard...especially leaving the kitty boys behind...but you can't have it all sometimes.

Who knows what the future holds and I'm really excited to find out!

BTW things are going great with my new job at http://www.noble.net/ they are keeping very busy so that's why it's been awhile between postings. I'm loving the Missouri summer and hope it stays around longer coz I'm not ready for snow just yet!

Well, what can I say.... where do I start...??? I just finished not only a fantastic musical but an amazing experience that enriched my life. I auditioned on a whim and what I got in return was priceless: friendship, a community, the uplifting of my spirit, and LOTS of EXERCISE!
When I think of Godspell I will always think: JOY! EXPLODING HEART CHAKRA!! THANKYOU JC!!!

On Thurs the 11TH, I cooked a delicious roast in our lovely new oven and we finally felt like we had “settled” (even if all the boxes weren’t unpacked).
We toasted with a glass of red wine and sighed a relaxing breathe of “at last, time to just just feel normal and at home”.

I was planning to post the house BEFORE & AFTER pics on Friday (12th). But Mother Nature had other plans. Springfield, MO was hit with an ice storm the likes of which have never been seen before- at least this century.
Imagine at least 2 inches of solid ice coating EVERYTHING. Every blade of grass. Every twig. Every leaf….until the trees just collapse under the incredible weight--did I say collaspe?
I meant explode, disintigrate, completely anihalated.
80% of the population without power.
Including us ofcourse. Our neighborhood was one of the worst hit- ofcourse. Not only was power out, but the telegraph pole infront of our house collapsed into the street -ripped the power box out of the wall of our house and the telephone lines from the roof and left them lying in our front yard.
So I’m sending this from an internet café 3 WEEKS LATER and, apparently even though most of the town is back to normal we wont have Internet/ electricity at the house for some time… I hate to speculate how long and can only hope soon at this point. So if you don’t hear from me for a while- that’s why. Heheh
Hey, at least we’re safe and alive ( a HUGE branch fell on the roof of our bedroom and miraculously only cracked a window ), and we have a large network of family and friends who have all rallied together and shared candlelight, warmth and a sense of humor about the whole shamozzle. We got sick of couch surfing and decided to "camp" in our house since the worst of the storm is well over. We have hot water and a lovely new gas stove to turn on to try and heat us up. We all bought a generator that manages to power 2 space heaters, a light and the TV so we feel kinda normal. We are camping in the living room and have shut of half of the house to contain the heat easier since it will still be below freezing all week!! AHHHH can you believe this????
Heheheh God certainly has a wicked sense of humor- but so do I, so it’s all good.
I know you all will probably get a chuckle out of this as you sit in sunny Australia or comfy Cali reading this.
Well, that’s ok coz I’m being awed by the beauty and power of nature and having a crazy life affirming adventure and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Heheheh YEE HAAAA!! Bye for now & enjoy the pics and videos!! much more to come...

We've Arrived in MO!!!!

We have arrived safely in our new home of Springfield. The house looks amazing! Deans family have done an awesome makeover job, and have helped so much during our move in. We even got a car at a great price from Dean's mum!
It was quite an adventure of a drive thru Route 66! We survived a blizzard and got some great pics and vids.
Enjoy the clips I have done so far and stay tuned for interior house footage once we unpack more boxes and get settled.

Getting high on Justin Tanner

Welcome to Pot Mom's house in Salinas: a grungy pad where divorced, unemployed Patty tokes up by 10 a.m. to shut out the tug-of-war between her live-in lover and her three unruly teenagers (the stoner, the slut and the one with glasses). Much of the original cast have returned for this reprise of Justin Tanner's 1994 cult hit, and the real pleasure of the show remains its perfectly calibrated ensemble. Kitchen-sink divas Ellen Ratner as Patty and best friend Laurie Metcalf (looking hilariously like Ozzy Osbourne's strung-out sister) bring down the house trying to keep it together on an unsteady diet of weed, pop tarts and pep talks.

"Pot Mom" is less of a play than a string of scenes illustrating the apparently inarguable fact that when it comes to family life, we all hold each other hostage. Whatever your position on cannabis, there's a desperately funny truth to Tanner's upside-down view of a functional family: call it tough love, desperation or just plain jonesin', domestic bliss requires endless acts of blackmail, and everyone's self-medication of choice.

Like a decent high, "Pot Mom" won't change your life, but it will guarantee a couple of hours of good times, with occasional bouts of uncontrollable laughter.

POT MOM AT THE THIRD STAGE. Justin Tanner is the poet laureate of white trash, and this revival of his Pot Mom finds Tanner at the top of the heap. The script moves fast, the lines are both furious and funny, and the production could not be better. As always, don’t bring the kids.

As you might have guessed from the title, the situation involves a matriarch inhaling cannabis. Nowadays you will often see signs in a theater lobby warning that actual cigarette smoke will be used on stage, so that the bubble boys among us may flee from the theater and back to their cocoons. Third Stage has no such sign. This oversight may be an assertion of the right not to incriminate oneself; because it certainly smells and looks as though those on-stage bong hits and joints are the real thing. Maybe we were all in hysterics from a contact high.

There are a lot of roles, presumably so everyone in the company gets a part and to increase attendance as all of their friends and family attend. What’s remarkable is how fantastic all the players are, adding just the right timing and physical movements to the script. Laurie Metcalf is hysterically funny as Michelle, the best friend of Patty (Ellen Ratner) the pot mom. Metalf has the expressiveness and movements of a clown in her stoned shifts from flirt to faux friend. It may be worth the price of admission to see her tease her hair to try to improve her look. Tanner as director has created a superb ensemble of portrayals of dysfunction, with the exception of Jonathan Palmer as Richard the boyfriend who seems a bit stiff and trim to be the pot growing trucker dreaming of life in Humboldt County.

Metcalf has experience in this milieu from playing Roseanne’s sister Jackie. But this situation is Roseanne’s world taken down several notches. The pot mom lives in a dumpy house with her boyfriend and three grown malcontent and indolent children, including Tanner regular Todd Lowe as Billy, who works taking tickets at the multiplex, but “I want to direct.” Lowe actually bears a resemblance to Ellen Ratner as his pot mom – Ratner’s screwball performance would make Patty’s hero Lucy Ball proud. There is also a pair of stoner boyfriends for the daughters, and two society friends of one aspiring daughter.

A two-hour comedy that flies by is an uncommon thing. True, you won’t learn anything or expand your soul, but neither do the characters. There’s little plot, but then not much goes on in the lives of these people who seek to constantly lose themselves in drugs, alcohol, sit-coms, and pissing off each other. The demands on the audience are few, just laugh at the broad humor. Tanner’s muse may be Erskin Caldwell of Tobacco Road, but Caldwell’s play and stories leave the audience appalled at white trash life. Tanner’s genius is to make a joke of the whole culture, from family life in this play, to wife swapping, to a holiday office party, and to putting on a twisted version of Okalahoma! Tanner likes to wrap things up with a bit of human decency and bonding; the mother and daughters are reconciled at the end.

If an episode of laughing at losers, who at the end of the story are the same as when we met them, feels a bit like television, that’s because Tanner is a television writer (Gilmore Girls and Love Monkey, for example). Theater just gives Tanner an opportunity to be a bit nastier. In this regard, Tanner is like Steven Banks, the head writer of children’s shows like SpongeBob SquarePants, who incognito graces our local stages (and the film The Aristocrats) as the outrageous and profane Billy The Mime.

The best-laid plans of new theater companies may go awry, and the first season of Justin Tanner’s Third Stage has taken major detours from the season that was announced. The future now includes a revised Oklahomo! and the delayed premiere of a new play. We can only look forward.

There's a joint simile to reach for here, but I can't think of it. Something along the lines of, "This show is as tight and pleasurable as a," followed by the possessive of some kind of smoker notorious for rolling firm joints, followed by a synonym for joint so I don't have to keep using the word repeatedly. I guess I've been out of the game awhile. But it felt as if I were in the thick of it once more the moment the lights went up on Patty (Ellen Ratner) and Michelle (Laurie Metcalf)-two old friends in Salinas, gathered for a bit of "wake and bake." Their flawless emulation of that pleasurably muzzy, stream-of-consciousness state that takes the edges off life's bleaker aspects establishes the perfect tone for the rest of writer-director Justin Tanner's comedy, a most enjoyable glimpse at the wreck of other people's lives.

Tanner's script is unfailingly funny, even if the structure is along the lines of "this happens, then this, then it stops." It's the whip-quick pacing and seamless performance of the ensemble that sell the production, though. In spite of the significant amount of yelling and door-slamming--a great deal, considering the amount of pot being smoked onstage--there's an utter believability to the characters, broad and sometimes deplorable though they may be. Comic gems though Ratner and Metcalf are, they shine no brighter than the rest of this considerable cast. Victoria Prescott, Tate Hanyok, and Todd Lowe play Patty's grown but not overly disciplined children, and their sibling dynamic is marvelous. The local garage-band boys are a wonderful little slice of suburban anarchy as embodied by Cody Chappel and Guilford Adams. Jonathan Palmer is remarkably sympathetic as Patty's drug-dealing live-in boyfriend. And in smaller roles Audrey Siegel and Sally Strecker acquit themselves nicely as the insufferable daughter and mother, respectively, from the "right" side of the tracks, who get invited to a dinner that goes inevitably awry. The costumes, perhaps provided by the actors, because nobody claims credit, are spot-on in every detail, while James Henriksen's living-room set would be perfect if the reading material on it weren't so geographically and temporally incorrect.
(SALLYS SAYS: I don't know where she got the the mother/daughter thing...it never says that in the script huh gettin old.. )

and I'm seriously vibin' it...I'm so excited about the directions we are headin'....more jamin', rockin', surreal, drawing from everything from WEEN to the Dandy Warhols to the White Stripes and I'm addin some Bikini Kill heheheh Ofcourse mix that and everything in between with Bluegrass and rockin Country and you'll find that we are a flavour uniquely unto ourself.
Will be updating the bands website with our new stuff very soon...it's been a little stale with some seriously OLD stuff on there...so we can't wait to share what we've been cookin' up!!

Here's some pics from a party we attended and one we threw on Christmas day. Thanks to all those who attended we had an awesome time and a lot of laughs and we were so glad you could make it :) I had to include so many pics of the house, the lights and decorations coz Dean did such a great job! Thanks babe.
The first one is of my pressies from home which included a sweater which I put on over the the top of what i was wearing- which coincidently the most unfashionable combo possible.
I also got many food products that one can't get in the US... Like Milo, Tim Tams, Madura Tea, Cruskits (my fav cracker!!) and lots of news articles and tit bits that i found very interesting and a gorgeous hand painted card that my Mum made!! So cool. It was soon after this I opened a pressie from Dean which was an Ipod!! I'm such a lucky Gal!!
Isn't it funny that it's Jesus' Birthday but we get all the Rad presents...heheh somehow I think he's OK with that.

OK having a blog in the first place is probably egomanical enough but this reading my MUM sent me was so spot- on I couldn't resist posting. Hey- if you want to know me - this cuts to the chase!!!

I remember being so affected by Dead Man Walking, not only were Sean Penn's and Susan Sarandon's perfromances incredilbly compelling, but the issue of the Death Penalty is so contentious to me.

After reading these I'm still wrestling with the "justice" of any of it. From the crime to the punishment - it all seems like such a waste.

The only thing that can't be denied is the universal law of cause and effect. Whether it's "Texas Justice" or not... all actions have karmic consequences....

Jellyfish officially rule. I was so mesmorized when I visited the Monterey Aquarium. Wish i could post some video here- I got some awesome footage. I'm cutting together Mum and Dad's holiday video on Imovie and it's turning out great! Gone are the days of the wishing for a quick death during the neighbors "holiday slides"! Just came across this pic and had to post it. It's the gang I worked with on the comedy game show Street Smarts. I really worked with some fantastic individuals! The show is no longer taping but we still try to keep in touch. I just wanted to make a post in their honor and say that it really makes a job easier when you get along with your workmates and I'm so grateful to have had so much fun working with these guys. I wish them all the best wherever they are and they will always have a special place in my heart. Hopefully we'll work together again soon. OXOXOXOOX

Where Have I BEEN???

Well the much anticipated month came and went *sigh*
The parents whom I haven't seen in 3yrs came to visit me in LA. It was FANTASTIC. I'm so lucky I have the kind of Parents that one can easily hang with for a month. There's so much to say and show that it's hard to know where to begin, it truly feels like a dream- we packed so much into each day. I'm just so grateful for the time we shared and I learned so much about love and family...ahhh life is rich. I hope I convey with my crude words and these pics the special time this was for all of us. If you live close to your family - don't take it for granted. The enlightened person sees everyone in the world with the same love he/she has for family, but if your not there yet...ahem, we can literlly start at home with our loved ones and perfect those relationships as much as we can with the time we have. I think my Dad learned after reuniting with his siblings after 25 years+ of estrangement, there's never really any good reasons for ill feelings and miscommunication when it comes to family. Those closest to us are our most immediate mirror like it or not they are teaching us about ourselves and they shape our experience. I'm so blessed to have the wonderful, complex, multi faceted, crazy, self sacrificing, hilarious, joyful, and truly loving family that I have...I wouldn't want it any other way. I love you all ad infinitum.

Lizzy has some cousins! These are Tree Frogs that we are taking care of indefinately. The living room is so awsome right now! heheh We have Lizzy on one side and then "Aussie and Indo" on the other...one tank is a dersert climate and the other -rainforest. We gave them those names because we thought it best to keep the unimaginative-name theme going. Aussie is originally frrom Australia and Indo is from,yes.....Indonesia. There you have folks it I'll only explain that one only once ok?
We had so much fun arranging the pump among the rocks to make a water fall and finding just the right place for the branch, pirate ship etc. hehe and it goes with out saying that frogs rule and are better than TV.

Well Gil's in an HUGE FANCY OPERA! So we got to attend the Dress Rehearsal and pretend we were rich for the night! The Opera is one of the last places where you can never be too over-dressed. Even on a "friends an family" final dress performance the gowns and suits were out! Such fun! It was an LA Opera show at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion- a lovely mid century theatre and we had great seats. The show itself was a comedic operetta and Gil truly shone as a bumbling soldier- he got one of the biggest laughs of the night with one of his superbly executed prat falls.
We hung out with the cast afterwoods at the equally posh Kendalls Brasserie. We got caught up in the opulence of the evening and ordered a decadent meal that we relished every bite of....One of those meals that you don't want to end! Then to cap it off Gil introduced us to the shows Dir. Gary Marshall (of Mork and Mindy, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley not to mention all his movies! his resume reads like a history of pop culture! ) We chatted briefly about Australia, Mel Gibson and NIDA he was funny and charming. What a night! Thanks Gil!! it's great to have friends in high places! hehehe

Yay! I can finally post pics!! So here's the first of many... It's of my beloved (Thin) Lizzy. That's a shot Dean took of monument valley that we have put behind her tank. She (actually it's probably a He but I think of her as female and he doesn't argue) anyway... we adopted her because her two front arms were chewed off by bigger tank mates when she was a tiny baby. She is an australian bearded dragon - the import of which is totally illegal but she is the great grandchild of the actual stow away so that's the pet store loop hole. I have to think she'll last a lot longer with us than in the wild and she definately eats well and get lots of love and attention.

Sometimes it seems like one is spinning ones wheels....And I don't mean in a "getting fit in spinning class" kind of way. I mean in the chicken and egg- need $ to make $$ kind of way.
Living in LA and trying to get acting work is teaching me many, many things. One of those things ressembles resourcefullness.
I know there's rich,ripe fodder for a film or memoir in the strange and random ways actors make money to survive. However, rather than spending time writing the film or memoir that will proably make me millions if it sold, I'm gonna get back to looking for strange and random work in order to survive. Rocks and hardplaces.

A New Tomorrow

Awhile ago I auditioned for an Indie Feature. The audition was waaay across town, there was a wreck on the highway, my old car was crapping, the role wasn't very flattering to the ego, so I almost blew it off. Luckily Dean talked me into it, reminding me that the casting director was well respected and might think of me for other things etc. The film was a mocumentary about a fictious SoCal town's mayoral election and the kooks on both the red and blue sides of the race.
So I knuckled down, got across town and gave it my best shot. The role was a "tall, plain medieval re-enactor" who has a crush on one of the leads and has a maniacal laugh as she launches catapults of eggs and cauldrens of hot water onto her foes during the climatic battle at the end of the film. I dressed in my highwater sweat pants and undersized ghostbusters shirt -- how could they say no to that.
So last Sunday I filmed the role and of course due to budget and time etc, alot of my action and screentime was sacificed but man, I had a BALL!
One of the things I adore about acting is that with every role, you learn many things about: yourself, the world, the human condition- no matter how small or seemingly trivial the part or production is.
What I learned on "A New Tomorrow" is that indie films can be made extremely fast and inexpensively- with a dedicated enthusiastic cast and crew and a 24p DV camera! Truly inspiring and has got my wheels turning.
I also learned about this amazing subculture of re-enactors. These are the Real Deal in this film.
As their site says: "You've watched Lord of the Rings- We LIVE IT!!"
I met Orcs, Shaman, Elves, Barbarians, a Caveman, The Castrating Bitch, a Dwarf ( who was 6ft and 350 pounds -but it's more about the craftmanship of weaponry than stature)....All of them were amazing, friendly and passionate people.
They meet every weekend and beat the crap out of eachother with custom made weapons (that are designed not to harm or maim- but hurt all the same as far as I was concerned ).
Dean and I spent some time reasearching my role, their lifestyle and learning how to fight. Before long we were challenged to join the frey and Dean really shone! He was even pulling out some "Brad Pitt in Troy" moves! Definately impressed even the warriors who have been doing it for 15 years! We were both surprised at how athletic it was, how much technique was involved. This is far from the Renaiassance Faire weaklings who just like dressing up!!! hehehe
Anyway the researched paid off and the role was fun to film. Even if my index finger still hasn't recovered from the abuse it suffered from having to weild a humongous, heavy sword all day.
Who knows, I might have even found a knew fitness hobby!

Watch and Learn

I have had the notion for a long time now that there is alot to be learned from observing. Recently two people very close to me were involved in a "mis-addressed email" incident and it was not nice. Infact, it almost spoiled something really important. Thankfully the maligned party chose to rise above it and see it as the silliness it was.

lesson 1: Always check whether you hit reply or send.

lesson 2: Don't write stuff that you're not prepared for them to hear...

lesson 3: If you haven't met someone don't pre-judge, your're often wrong when something is assumed.

Lesson 4: Even if you feel the same way when/if you meet them them, it's probably better to keep it to yourself. I'm believing more and more lately, that "thought" and "word" are ultimatley creative so we mays well give ourselves a break and think and say positive things, even if it's meant to be joke- it goes back to lesson 2.

btw: I have, ofcourse, broken all of these lessons many times myself too. Isn't it great we have eachother-so many mirrors through which to examine our own existance?! That's why I love creativity, it's about watching, learning, passing it on.

ok so ima gonna just jump in and say that last nite's gig was fun and it was the launch of what will now be a weekly Country thing at Residuals every Wed. Nite. We wont play every week but our kin folk will...bands who we are probably related to in some way. I'm so grateful to my friends who showed up last nite - it was great to see y'all. Sorry one friend had to leave coz she found out her stalker ex was coming too....*sigh* All in all I think it was good show exept for the fact that we played a long crazy jam song in the middle which cleared the room somewhat...hmmm should save that one for the all-nighter gigs methinks. We got those who stayed back in the end and finished strong with "Your Cheatin' Heart" ahhh Patsy Cline thankyou darlin'
